Office Structure

The department has overall management of the residence halls including budget, residence life program, Greek and Special Interest Housing, and housekeeping. The department works closely with Facilities Management to coordinate daily routine and preventive maintenance and both short term and long range renovation planning.

Special Interest Housing Smoke Free Most of the traditional housing is designated as smoke-free. Residents and their guests must refrain from use of tobacco products while in the building.
Substance Free

Offered to one coed floor housing 54 residents with one RA. Residents and their guests must refrain from the use of tobacco products, beverage alcohol, and other illicit substances while in residence.

First year housing is alcohol-free, with the exception of residents 21 years of age or older who may possess and consume alcoholic beverages in their private rooms only. No functions with alcohol are permitted.

Family Housing Four two-bedroom apartments are offered.
First Year Experience First year students are required to live in campus housing unless commuting from home of parent/guardian within 30-mile radius of campus. 1,316 spaces available with some rooms used a overcrowds to accommodate an additional 36. Staff to resident ratio is 1:24.
Language Houses 8options available 06-07; Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish. Each unit houses 22-23 residents and is staffed by one Resident Assistant.
International Houses International Studies Hall houses 22 students with one Resident Assistants.
Greek Housing 8 fraternities and 11 sororities housed on campus 06-07; 252 men housed in fraternity houses and 170 women housed in sorority houses. All houses with 14 or more residents are staffed with a Resident Assistant.
Honors Housing Monroe Scholar housing is provided for first year residents only for a total possible capacity of 198 first year students with nine Resident Assistants.
Other
  • Sharpe Community Partners program provides housing for approximately 86 first year students in a program that combines a residential component with academics and community service. All participants are enrolled in Economics 101 and are assigned to work with specific community service agencies.
  • Community Scholars House is interdisciplinary house with an emphasis on integrating civic and service involvement with academic coursework.
  • Africa House promotes awareness of Africa and provides an informal setting where students are introduced to African history, cultures, and current events. 
  • Mosaic House Mosaic House provides students with a living center that encourages and supports serious dialogue about cultural and social difference.
